NCAA Tournament Day 2 Reaction

From Mike Lucas.  For all of Lucas' work, check out http://mikelucassports.wordpress.com/

Day one of the NCAA Tournament was crazy, but it was a regular day in the park compared to the craziness of day two.
Really Georgetown?: Not only did Georgetown lose to Florida Gulf Coast, but G’town was dominated in every facet of the game. FGCU played with more energy, they played with fgcu-georgetown-blog-hpMedium more passion, they hustled more, they executed on both ends of the
floor
better, and they brought the fight to Georgetown, and G’town just took the beating. The Hoyas barely fought back. It was embarrassing. It was roughly a 13-point game the whole way, and FGCU imposed their will. Georgetown should be embarrassed by the way they played, but give
credit
to FGCU. They’re a fun team to watch and I’m excited to see what they can do against San Diego State.

Never Doubt A Crazy Man: By no means did Marshall Henderson have a good shooting game, but he did lead his team to an impressive win against a very good Wisconsin team. Henderson had a rough first half, but turned it around and scored 17 points in the second, including timely bucket after timely bucket. When Wisconsin started to make a run, Henderson had the answer. He’s that kind of player. Like I said, never doubt a crazy person.
Khalif Wyatt: If you have been following my blog at all, you’d know that one of my favorite players in the country is Temple’s Khalif Wyatt, and his performance against NC State is a perfect example of why I love his game. Wyatt is a senior that knows how to score. He craves contact in the lane and loves getting to the free throw line, something that not enough players do. In Temple’s win against NC State, Wyatt shot 12-14 from the charity strike, and went 6-6 in the game’s final minutes to top off his 31-point performance. Dude has ice in his veins and is never rattled. He’s a stud.
The Reunion: Kansas and UNC will meet in the third round of the NCAA Tournament after both teams won their second round games. UNC’s head coach Roy Williams images left Kansas ten years ago to take his current
job
, and Bill Self replaced him at the helm for the Jayhawks. Both schools have had great success since the move, as UNC has won two national championships and Kansas has won one. Sunday’s game will be the tenth matchup between these two coaches since the move, and the third in the NCAA Tournament. Great coaching matchups like this are always fun to watch.

Don’t Pick Notre Dame: I can’t think of a team that consistently performs worse in the NCAA Tournament than Notre Dame. ND always seems to get a relatively high seed in the tournament, and always fails to meet expectations. The Fighting Irish are always on upset alert, and this year was no different. Iowa State upset Notre Dame by 19 points in last night’s second round matchup, and frankly, it felt like a bigger blowout than 19 points. It should be a given now that when you see ND as a five, six, seven, or eight seed in the NCAA Tournament, DON’T PICK THEM! Simple as that.
