Running Back Marcus Lattimore were sure fire first round draft prospects. After tumultuous seasons with injuries taking their toll, both players were selected in the fourth round of the 2013 Draft Saturday.
Barkley's free-fall was a little less predictable. Coming off an underwhelming senior season with the Trojans, one that saw him miss his last two games with a shoulder injury, Barkley (right) was projected to be a second round selection. However, like most of the other QBs in this class, he wound up going lower than he was projected. The Philadelphia Eagles traded up to the top spot in the fourth round and made Barkley the first player selected on Saturday.
"I'm an Eagle!! Time to fly," Barkley tweeted after the pick.
Lattimore, on the other hand, was the victim of a gruesome season ending knee injury midway through the 2012 season. It was his second major knee injury of his career, so he was seen as a major injury risk, and there is doubt as to whether or not he'll be able to play at all next season.

The 49ers made Lattimore (above) the 131st overall selection in the draft, using their compensatory pick at the end of the fourth round. With Frank Gore, LaMichael James, and Kendall Hunter on the roster, the 49ers don't need Lattimore to contribute right away, so he'll likely get to spend the season rehabbing his knee rather than be rushed back into action.
In other Saturday draft news, the QBs finally started to come off the board, starting with Barkley. 7 more signal callers were selected on Saturday, although talented but troublesome Tennessee QB Tyler Bray wasn't one of them.
Defensive backs continued to be a hot commodity in the late rounds. A total of 28 defensive backs went in the last four rounds, bringing the total to 53 for the whole draft.
2013's Mr. Irrelevant (last player picked) was South Carolina Tight End Justice Cunningham (below), who was picked 254th overall by the Colts.

The next step for teams is to start signing undrafted free agents. The process starts immediately after the draft and has become an important part of the team-building process in the NFL.
